January 2008

A Message from the President

Greetings Fellow Lions:

The new year is here. We had our board meeting the 8th of January. We discussed the following topics. Lion Howard Heines proposed, and the board approved, a $1000 donation to the Triplet family memorial scholarship fund. PDG Dave Court talked about the success of the Christmas Food Basket and Toys for Tots projects. Lion Paul Russell reported that we took 140 pictures with Santa at the Lakeville Library and the South Bend Center for the Homeless. The subject of dues was brought up. There are 86 members listed in our Directory. For the year of 2006-2007, there are 22 people that have NOT paid their dues. For the year of 2007-2008, 46 people have NOT paid their dues. So, that means that over half of our members are at least 6 months late. You might want to check your membership card, to see if your dues are paid.

I hope all of you have a good, healthy, and a Happy New Year.

Lion President Ben Leslie

Fish Fry

The Lakeville Lions Club annual Fish Fry will be held on Friday, March 21, at the Newton Center. Be sure to invite all your family members and friends to take advantage of this opportunity for great food and good fellowship. Proceeds from the Fish Fry provide funding for our community service projects. Watch for more information in next month's newsletter.

Dues Are Due

Many of our club members have not yet paid their Lakeville Lions Club dues for 2007-2008, and several members still owe dues for 2006-2007. Next week, letters will be sent to all Lakeville Lions Club members who have outstanding dues. If you receive one of these letters, please pay your dues as soon as possible. The club must pay Lions Club International dues for all members, so we need all members to pay their dues.

Lions Christmas Projects Help 55 Families

PDG David Court reports that our annual Christmas Food Basket and Toys for Tots projects helped make the holidays brighter for 55 families with 155 children.

Over 500 food items were collected at the Laville Elementary School, the Lakeville Fire Department donated $100 worth of food, and we received over $500 in cash donations from individuals and organizations in our community. We provided food baskets to 55 families. We also gave food items to residents of Senior Housing, and to the food pantries at the Lakeville United Methodist Church and the County Line Brethren Church.

Over 600 toys were donated to our Toys for Tots project. Most of the toys were given to children in the families which were aided by our Food Basket project. Toys were also given to the Lakeside Baptist Church, the Lakeville Fire Department, and the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.
