March 2008
A Message from the President
Greeting Fellow Lions,
The March board meeting was held Tuesday, March 11th.
We discussed the fish fry coming up on March 21st. Everything is falling into place and we expect a good turnout.
Lion Jim Foster talked about the upcoming bicycle ride, tentatively scheduled for June 28th. This project is still in the early planning stage and details will be announced later.
A committee was formed to review nominations for Melvin Jones Fellowships and W.P. Woods Fellowships. The committee members are: PDG Dave Court, Lion Jim Foster, Lion Howard Heines, Lion Ben Leslie, and Lion Paul Shafer. If you have a special person who should be considered for one of these awards, please contact a member of the committee.
Lion Paul Russell is putting together the slate of officers for the coming year. The slate will be announced at the March dinner meeting, and the election will be held at the April dinner meeting.
The members of the Lakeville Town Board have been invited to the March dinner meeting to discuss their plans and goals for the coming year.
Your President, Ben
Dues Are Due
In an effort to ensure that Lions Club membership remains affordable for all Lions, the club charges only $40 per Lion per year for dues, despite the fact that the club must pay $51.90 per Lion per year for LCI, state, and district dues. The difference is made up from the club's administrative fund. Several Lions have not yet paid their dues for the 2007-2008 Lions' year. If you are one of these Lions, please do your fair share and pay your dues. If you are not sure whether you owe dues, please contact Lion Rob Hochschild (231-8049) or Lion Rose Russell (784-9094).

Fish Fry
The Lakeville Lions Club annual Fish Fry will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21st, at the Newton Center. Be sure to invite all your family members and friends to take advantage of this opportunity for great food and good fellowship. Proceeds from the Fish Fry provide funding for our community service projects.
Ticket prices are $4.00 for children (dine-in only) and $7.50 for adults (dine-in), or carry-out.
If you still need tickets, or if you have ticket sales money or unsold tickets to turn in, please contact Lion Don Milzarek (784-3272).
Port-A-Pit Chicken & Pork Chop Sale
The Lakeville Lions Club will hold a Port-A-Pit Chicken & Pork Chop Sale on Saturday, May 10th, in conjunction with the annual Lakeville Town-Wide Garage Sale. Profits from the sale will benefit Campaign Sight First II. Last year, this project raised more than $1000 for Campaign Sight First II. For more information about this event, contact Lion Howard Heines (784-8666).
State Convention
The State Convention will be held April 25-27 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
This will be a great opportunity to meet Lions from other clubs, and learn how Lions serve their communities, our state, and the world. If you are interested in attending this event, please contact Lion President Ben Leslie (784-2765).
District Convention
The District Convention was held Saturday, March 8th, at Christos' Banquet Center, in Plymouth. The Lakeville Lions Club was represented by PDG David Court and Lion Paul Russell. The principal order of business was the election of the District Governor, Vice District Governor, and our District's Trustees for Indiana Lions statewide projects. Current Vice District Governor Sam Fryback of the Syracuse Lions Club was elected District Governor for the 2008-2009 Lions' year; Lion Bill Wallace of the Plymouth Lions Club was elected Vice District Governor.
