June 2008
A Message from the President
Greeting Fellow Lions,
On Tuesday, June 10, we had our monthly Board Meeting. We discussed the following items:
- The annual golf outing will be held Saturday the 14th, at Tri-way Golf Course. There should be at least 16 to 20 groups playing. There will be chipping and putting contests also. Please come and help and make it a better day.
- The Newton Center has raised our rent. So, we have to start thinking what we are going to do. A committee has been formed that will check in to the different options that we have. Let's hope that they can come with a permanent solution where we don't have to move every few months, years, whatever. If any one has good suggestions or ideas, please come forward.
- Our Bicycle ride is coming along and it is set for June 28th. Lions Jim Foster and Rose Russell are in charge of it They could use your help and cooperation. Please see them if there is something that you can do.
- The Strawberry festival at Greene Township is going to be held the same day as our golf outing, June 14th, so come and enjoy both projects the same day. The Strawberry Festival will start later in the day, so you can do both.
- Our Pancake Breakfast will be held July 4 .Lion Rose Russell could use some help, so contact her, if you can help.
Your next monthly report will be coming from your new President Paul Russell. I thank you for your support.
Your President, Ben

Lions Pride Ride
The Lions Pride Ride - a bicycle ride for all ages and abilities - is a new fundraiser jointly sponsored by the Lakeville Lions Club and the Greene Township Lions Club. The ride will be held on Saturday, June 28th, and will start and end at the Newton Center in Lakeville. Event registration will be from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the event ending at 2:00 p.m. Riders will begin with a pancake breakfast, then choose one of three routes of 11, 25 or 41 miles. For the two longer routes, there will be a rest stop at the Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church on Roosevelt Road. It is not too late to register to ride, or volunteer to help with this event. Flyers and brochures will be available at the June dinner meeting. If you have questions or want to volunteer to help, please contact Lion Jim Foster (291-9076) or Lion Rose Russell (784-9094).
4th of July
The parade will step off at 9:00 a.m., from the corner of Mangus Drive and Quinn Trail, and proceed north on Mangus Drive to Jefferson Street. For more information about the parade, or to volunteer to help, contact Lion Don Milzarek (784-3272).
The Pancake Breakfast will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., in the grassy area just outside the north entrance to the Newton Center. We will be serving pancakes and sausage with coffee, milk, or juice. Please come and support this fund-raiser. If you can help, please call Lion Rose Russell at 784-9094.
Strawberry Festival
The Lakeville Lions sold Port-A-Pit chicken and pork chop dinners at the Greene Township Lions Club Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 14th at Camp Millhouse. Event chairman Lion Bob Feitz reported that both chicken and pork chops were sold out by approximately 3:00 p.m.
Golf Outing
The 9th annual Lakeville Lions Golf Outing was held on Saturday, June 14th at Tri-Way Golf Course in Plymouth, with 16 teams participating in the event. Event chairmen Lions Howard Heines and Jon Roush extend their thanks to all sponsors, participants, and workers, who helped make this event successful.
Dues Are Due
We still have a few members who have not paid their dues for the 2007-2008 Lions year. Past due members have received at least three notices that their dues are past due. At the June Board meeting, the board voted to drop any member whose 2007-2008 dues are not paid by June 30. We value all our members, but the club cannot afford to continue paying LCI, state, and district dues for members who are now one year past due on their club dues.
