A Message from the President

Greeting Fellow Lions,

It's the holiday season. While you're trying to figure out what sort of gifts to give to the special people in your life, don't forget those whose lives you can bless with another kind of gift – the gift of service. Lend a hand with our local Christmas projects; help stock the shelves at your church's food pantry; visit a shut-in; teach a craft or coach a sport at the Boys & Girls Club; read to a blind person; become a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Brownie, or Girl Scout leader; volunteer at a homeless shelter or neighborhood community center; work on a Habitat for Humanity house; the possibilities are endless. And while you're helping others, invite a family member or friend to share in the joy of giving of oneself in service to others.

Yours in Lionism,
Lion Paul Russell

And Away We Grow!

Six new members will be inducted into the Lakeville Lions Club at the December dinner meeting. All six joined after attending the membership information breakfast in November. If you know someone who would make a good Lion, but you are not comfortable asking them to join our club, please give that person's name and contact information to Lion Jim Foster, our membership chairman. Someone on the membership committee will contact that person on your behalf.

Lion Jim, the members of his committee, and Lions who participated in the membership information breakfast are to be congratulated for the progress we have made.

Toys for Tots: Two Marines and a host of Lakeville Lions greeted donors who brought toys to Dave Grenert's Garage on "Blitz Day", Saturday, December 6. We filled four large collection boxes, but more toys are needed. You may drop off toys at Dave's Garage until Friday, December 19.

Winter 50-50 Contest: The Snow Is Right

Are you a weather prognosticator? Bring an extra dollar to the December dinner meeting and buy a chance to predict the total snowfall for the month of January. The person who comes closest to the official total, as reported by the National Weather Service, without going over the total, will win half the pot. The winner must be present at the February dinner meeting to collect the prize. If you cannot come to the December dinner meeting, you can buy a chance from Lion Dave Grenert until December 31.

The winner of the contest to predict total snowfall for the month of December will be announced at the January dinner meeting. The winner must be present to collect the prize.

On January 1, we will start a new contest to predict the total snowfall for February. You may buy a chance to predict the February snowfall from Lion Dave Grenert any time during the month of January. The winner will be paid at the March dinner meeting.
