A Recipe for a Day
Take a dash of water cold
And a leaven of prayer
A little bit of sunshine gold
Dissolved in the morning air
Add to your meal some merriment
And a thought of kith and kin
And the prime ingredient
A plenty of work thrown in
But spice it all with essence of love
And a little whiff of play
Let a wise old Book and a look above
Complete a well spent day.

The November 22nd Dinner Meeting will officially start our Community Christmas Food Basket and Toys for Tots project for 2011. The theme for the evening is “SERVICE”: the service we do as Lions. Our guests, who also SERVE, will be members of the U.S. Marine Corps representing Toys for Tots. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Nancy Herbster, O.D., a LaVille graduate who has spent 20+ years SERVING the people in the Congo. To jump-start the Toys for Tots project, we ask each member to bring one unwrapped toy. As you enter, give your toy to the Tail Twister and he will give you a ticket for a door prize. If you happen to forget to bring a toy, the Tail Twister will make a note. We will have a Penny Auction at the November dinner meeting to sell a personal/home safe which was previously used in our 4-H Fair food booth.
Blessings in a Box was started this month for recommended families. This program has replaced the Angel Food Ministries program. This month, we will help 13 families. The price of each box is the same: $35. The families and individuals We Serve are by referral only. The names come from Lakeville Lions Club members, area churches, and the township trustee. Referral is a requirement; we do not accept direct requests from potential recipients. If you would like to help deliver these Blessings in a Box, contact Lion Dave Grenert. The next pick-up will be Saturday, November 19, at 9:00 a.m., at the Trinity Assembly of God Church, 302 E. Patterson, in Lakeville.
Scout Hall Renovation: The Scout Hall renovation project is moving along. The new flooring has been installed. A new sink, painting, and washing the paneling are on the schedule. We have received a $750 grant from the Indiana Lions Foundation to help cover the cost of this project.
Lions Tables: If you borrowed 3 of our 6-foot white tables from Scout Hall, please contact Lion Dave Court to make arrangements to return them.
